Editing

We started editing our video. First, we dumped our footage on the computer. Rejoice did most of the editing since we split it sections.  We made some clips longer to fit the time requirement. We started editing it by putting all our scenes because they were out of order. The first thing we edited was the footage as a whole. We wanted to make a scene where it goes back to the beginning at the end of the music video. That clip made the video longer. So far the music video is 50 seconds long. After editing that scene, we started to edit the first part of the video.

We will use a transition for the flashbacks to show it clearly. We wanted to make sure that we made it clear to the audience that not the whole video was not the same time period. There were some scenes that were hard to edit because they were not fitting correctly. We had to decide what shot to use for the movie scene to make it fit. We did not want to make it look out of place. There is one scene we will need to refilm because it did not turn out the way we wanted it to. The shot did not look like it would go with the music video. We still have some scenes to put in the music video so it will be longer.  Later on, the scenes that are missing will be added. The editing will continue, and we have some more things to do in order for this video to be finished.

Some scenes will probably be switched to make the video make sense. We may have to shorten some of the clips we made longer depending on the new clips we add. Most of the scenes will use jump cuts. Since there is a cut off time for the song in the music video, we will fade the song to make it seem more natural. Even though there were really some bumps, I think we are off to a good start. We plan to put more transitions and to edit it more. We also plan to order the rewind scene. Today was a very productive day. Overall, I like how to music video is coming together. We will then export it when we are done.

Filming Continued

We did not film on Wednesday the day we had planned. We also did not film on Thursday because it was Thanksgiving. Since we decided that we were going to film in sections I filmed my scenes on Saturday. The scenes I filmed were the ones that did not have people in them since Sabrina would be filming those. I filmed someone eating popcorn. I got the props and started to film. The popcorn scene was not the hard to film, but it took some time. I had to figure out what shot would be best and how it would fit into the rest of the music video. I filmed a closeup of the popcorn. I also filmed the popcorn popping in the microwave.

We will probably need to cut down the scene because it may pass the time of the lyrics. I filmed many different shots and angles for both scenes so we could choose from the best one. When filming it I tried to get a shot of the time to indicate it was cooking. It may not be put in because it made the scene long. I also filmed the movie scene. For the movie part I did not know how to film it at first. I later on figured that it would be best in a POV since the actor was not there. The POV of the actor watching a movie allowed me to film different angles. I did this in a POV since that actor was not present. This will either be in a pan or tilt.

I used different props then we planned because we changed the storyboard a little bit. The location is also different because I filmed at my house. We will decide what looks better when we film. Sabrina and I will look over the footage we filmed and combined them. Rejoice will start editing them. If we able to we will start to edit the clips we have tomorrow in class. We plan to film tomorrow for the school scene. If we are not able to we will have to change the scene. We need to get the prop for the stairs. So far, the music video is going well.

Filming Blog

We did not film this weekend. There was nothing filmed this weekend since everyone was busy. We decided that we will do it in parts since we could not meet up. It was very hard to find a day that worked for all of us because we have different schedules. We decided that it would be best if we did the music video in sections because no one had time to film. By doing it this way we are able to set a time that is available to us. It would also make our videos have a better outcome. We can take our time rather the rush to get it done. I'm now able to film on Saturdays with Sabrina. We had to change some of the storyboard to accommodate our filming days.

This has set us back a bit, but we have now made a better plan. I will film the parts that do not have people in them. Sabrina will film the other clips. We are going to use the same actor we planned. There are supplies that I will need to gather in order to film the music video. I am going to organize our material so we are ready for filming. ReJoice will be doing the editing since she can not film with us. We still plan on filming at school. We have a backup plan just in case so we are not able to film after school. If we do not get to film everything we will pick a day to film again.

I want to make enough time just in case we have to refilm. The location has changed from the park to Sabrina’s back yard since her sister is the actor. We changed the slumber party scene to a movie scene. We also decided to film a close up of the popcorn instead of the person. The costumes are going to stay the same. The props are going to change because we decided to change the scene. We will no longer need to call stores to film because we are not going to need them since we removed the scene. There are a lot of things to be done. We need to start working soon if we want to finish the video and start editing. I’m excited to start filming the music video.

Music Video Storyboard blog

In the very beginning, the actor will be thinking about a flashback that will take place in the park. The following scene will be a flashback that will show two actors play fighting. This is followed up by one of the actors spilling water onto the other person. Both scenes are flashbacks of the same moment which will be portrayed within a split-screen. When the scene shifts from flashback to present, the actor will be hallucinating about that person seeing them everywhere. With a touch on the shoulder, the actor will snap back to reality. The next scene will show that every person that was being hallucinated about disappear.

Between the scenes going from flashback to present or vice versa, the transition will be jump cuts. Having the scenes go from a flashback to a flashback will be followed by a burn out transition. Both the first and last scenes are gonna be recorded at War field Park. The first scene will be in the present showing how the actor is feeling by singing to the main song. The next scene is set up as a flashback which will show two actors having fun together while making popcorn in the kitchen. Followed by the scene will reverse back to the present showing a slumber party scene that will have a bedroom setting. After filming the slumber party scene, the next setting will jump right into the schoolyard where the actor will be located right in front of the stairs for building 5 of Fort Lauderdale High. The scene will be a flashback showing how the actor trips and drops all of their books. Finally, the last scene will be in the present within the park which will show the actor thinking alluding back to the very first scene of the music video.

Within the last two scenes of the music video, our group decided to make the scene play out as if it was right back at the beginning. We reverse it all the way back to the point where the actor will be seen walking forward again. The ending scenes will take place in the present with the transition being a jump cut. The last two scenes will also take place at War field Park.

Planning Blog Music Video

Location: There will be a scene shot right in front of the stairs for building 5 inside Fort Lauderdale High school. Another scene that will be incorporated within the music video is a slumber party which will be recorded at our local Target (with permission) or IKEA furniture store. For the bulk of the music video, scenes will be recorded at War field Park in the city of Fort Lauderdale since it is the park closest to all group members.

Health and Safety: For a scene where the actor will trip in the schoolyard, cushioning will be provided so that the actor doesn't get hurt. When driving to our meeting point, each group member will comply with the rule of traffic and wear seat belts. When recording our slumber party scene, our group will ask permission to record in either Target, IKEA or Rooms-To-Go so that we don't break any rules. For the scenes that will be shot in War field Park, mosquito spray will be brought in case anyone is getting bitten easily.

Props: Our team thought about using flyers for a scene where the actor will be hallucinating about a person in their flashbacks. Books will be used during the scene where the actor will trip and drop all of their books in a flashback scene. Snacks, more specifically popcorn, will be used during a flashback where two actors will be seen making popcorn together in a kitchen. Lastly, park equipment, such as a Frisbee and ball will be used to make the park scene more joyful and natural.

Costumes: Regular shirt and pants that are brightly colored or pastel for all the scenes

Intro to music video

We just finished our commercial and I think our commercial was good. I think we could have incorporated more acting. One thing we did well was the storyboarding because we followed most of it and only changed one thing. Editing also went well and this will help us with our music video. We are now starting our music video and I am really excited. One thing I think we should add to our music video is more camera angles because we did not have that many in our commercial. The commercial was very helpful because it taught us how the process of the film works.

As of today, our class was assigned to work on filming our first music video. For the music video, our group agreed to do the song “I forgot you existed” by Taylor Swift after both Sabrina and me heard the song for the first time. Our team mainly picked the song for the reason being that Rejoice gave the idea of filming flashbacks and present scenes for the music video.

C- Our team hasn’t specified the article of clothing the actors will be wearing, but we have settled on wearing only bright/ pastel colors.
L- Our team decided to conduct fluorescent lighting for a particular scene and mainly use natural lighting cast from the sun.
A- Our team wanted to include mainly two new actors with the inclusion of background.
M- No specific makeup would be used for the entirety of the music video just natural face.
P-  For props, our team settled with using books, popcorn, flyers, and park equipment (frisbees, ball).
S- Our team settled on filming scenes taking place in a park, the school, and in one of the group member’s house.

Our music video as a whole will be under the pop genre with music that will take its place as the main sound. The main camera movement our team wants to include was a flash pan for a particular scene that will take place in the music video.

Editing Continued

Today we continued to edit our video. We added some new things to our video. One thing that we added was the voice over. We also organized the way we wanted the building to go to. The sign for building 17 was changed to zoom out instead of zoom in. It was easier to see the sign that way. We also shorten the tracking shot of building 8. It was taking up 10 seconds and we got it done to six seconds. We tried to make all of our clips as short as possible. After we were close to finishing editing it, we started to add more transitions to see if it would take up more time in the video.

We wanted to keep the tracking shot of building 8 uniformed, so we added a swap transition. For all the inserts we had an open circle transition, we decided to keep it the same. To separate the building 17 sign and the actual building we used a fade to white transition. To show that buildings offered AICE classes we used a cross blur. The last clip was a fade to black to indicate that it was the last clip. We found out that adding the transitions shorten the video. This was good because our commercial was a little long. We finished adding the transitions. The editing is almost done we just have to add music to the background. The music we want to add is supposed to be soft and blend in the background.

We edited the voiceover. There was a problem with one part of the voiceover because of the cut we did before, but we fixed it. We ended up having to make the clip for building 8 longer so the voice-over could match. Building 5 was the hardest to edit because we needed most of the voiceover and we really couldn't cut anything out. We ended up cutting some of it to make the video shorter. The voiceover for the outro did not fit at first so we needed to make the clip longer. This made the video four seconds pass 30 seconds. We fixed this by shortening some of the other clips. There were some parts of the voiceover we did not use any more because it did not apply to our commercial anymore. We also made the audio for the voiceover louder, so when we add the music it doesn't get overpowered. Today was a very productive day and we are almost done. Later we will export the video.

Editing

Today we continued our filming by doing a voiceover. I was the one doing the voiceover and it was hard to make sure the voiceover was not too long or short. We made a voiceover for each building and for the intro and outro. The noises around us made the voiceover a second or longer, but we plan to edit it out.  Then we started the editing process. During the editing process, I helped to edit the commercial and help pick the inserts. I looked up inserts online of the courtroom and the dance team. The inserts helped us to show the part of the school we were not able to film. I also had inserts of the band to show the band and the instrument that may be available. The inserts were not hard to find because they were all online.

We began to dump our footage on the computer. We started with building four and there we had to cut most of the footage. Some of the footage was kept and a pan was used to transition to building 17. I started to help with editing the footage. Some of the footage was hard to edit because it would make it too long. There were also some transitions used like cross dissolves. There were also some others like open circles. The editing was harder than I thought because we had to cut some of the footage to make it shorter. We had a ten-second clip that was edited down to four seconds. We ended up finding the needed footage.

We figured out a way to fix this by inserting the clips. This helped to make it longer. We needed a way to edit the footage without cutting out all of the useful footage. We used a pan to transition to the next building. I think it was a good transition to show the next building. These transitions helped to make the clips that were short longer. Even though there were really some bumps, I think we are off to a good start. Next class, we plan to put more transitions and to edit it more. We also plan to fix the order of the buildings, so the commercial flows better.  We will then export it when we are done.

Filming the Commercial

Today we started to film our commercial. First, I helped to set up the camera. I was the actor in the video. First, we went to the front of the school. I stood in the front and said welcome. I suggested that we move to a spot that captures the school better because the lighting was not good at building 20. We decided to move the opening to the senior patio. We thought that the patio would be better. I stood in front. I also said welcome to the school.

I also showed off the patio. I suggested that we take a tilt to show our school motto on the top. I moved in different spots to get a good view. Next, we went to the science building. There I stood in front of a wall and started to walk. I displayed that it was the science building and this is where most of our science classes take place. There were a few takes retaken in order to get the track shot.  Next, we went to building 17. I suggested that we pan over to the building. I stood on the stairs to show the building.

There was a pause on the way to building 21 to get a close up of the building 17 sign. We then went to building 21. I talked about there being law classes in there. I stood on the stairs to get a medium close up. I also said goodbye at building 21 for the outro. Last we went to building five. I went to the top of the stairs so we could get a low shot. There I showed off that we have some of our band classes. I also showed the Cambridge classes. I did not direct, but I suggested certain things to put in the commercial. I also suggested where the lighting could be better.

Storyboard

Our team collectively created a storyboard that would stand at the maximum time of thirty seconds for our first commercial. The overall theme of the storyboard was to portray the programs offered here at Fort Lauderdale High School. A total of five boxes was used out of the six to accurately lay out the time frame for each scene that was planned to be carried out. Our team included an intro and an outro when laying out the storyline of the commercial. In between the ending and the beginning, each box will represent a specific building our team wants to incorporate when talking about specific programs offered. Each building will be talked about briefly and will be introduced for at least five seconds long. A jump cut transition would be used to move on from talking about one building onto the next. Our group will incorporate tilts and pans to showcase each building that will be talked about   with the addition of voiceovers narrating the plot of the commercial. To show the actress on screen for a few scenes, our team will be using both medium shots and medium close ups to have the person on camera doing the hand signals and introducing the school. The camera will be placed at a eye level angle without any tilts to properly showcase the figure and the buildings within each shot. When talking about the programs offered here at Fort Lauderdale High School, inserts will be used to display the different types of rooms that holds the special programs along with listing the various AICE and AP classes offered. Our team went in chronological order when determining which building will be talked about first. The order goes from intro, building 17, building 5, building 8, building 21, then the end. Our team presented the storyboard along with the script to the commercial for our teacher to approve on October 17th, 2019.

Here is the actual photo of the storyboard our team constructed together.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today I learned the basics of the editing process and how to check out a camera. To check out
a camera, we need to fill out an equipment agreement form, then bring it to the desk. Lastly,
place the form in the class folder. To edit, we will be using Pinnacle Studios. First, the SD card
goes into the SD card reader. The SD reader then goes into the USB. A folder will be made for
the footage. All the footage goes into the folder. Go to DCIM to get your footage. If it is not there
go to AVCHD and click on what pops up, then stream. Once the footage is moved to the
computer, the SD card can be removed.

To import the footage goes to your folder, then go to pinnacle studios. Look for your folder by
clicking on my computer then desktop and start to import. The raw footage will be at the top. In
order to edit build on AV track two. AV track one is for titles and AV track three is for music.
Drag the footage to AV track two to edit. To cut something move the line before the clip you
want to cut. Next, click the razorblade, once the razorblade is selected it will split, then you
press delete. To add transitions right-click. Next click effects in, then transitions in.

To make the title hit T for a title. To make it move go to motions on the top of the screen. Music
is added the same way as footage. To remove audio like dialogue, right-click on the clip and
press detach audio. Then press delete to remove the audio. To export press MPEG 4. Pick the
best quality option, then click start to export. You will only need to export your final video. You

can save the video to your folder. Then you will not need to go to Pinnacle Studios again.

Planning Blog for FLHS Commercial

Today my group is planning our school commercial. We are creating a to-do list to prepare for our scenes and make sure we have all the necessary items and people. We also want to be able to have backup plans in case something goes wrong either before, during, or after production. Having this list will make us more efficient and organized so that filming can continue no matter what happens. We will be listing the pieces that go into any film. This list is one of the crucial parts of any great video. Here is what will be going into our film:

  1. Props: School merchandise
  2. Costumes: School shirt and jeans
  3. Schedule: On October 14 we will film the commercial. On October 21st we will edit our film and also reshoot and scenes needed if time permits. On October 28 our commercial will be done and turned in for grading.
  4. Location: Building 5- Cambridge and art, Building 8- Science, Building 17- Cambridge, Building 21- Law, Front of School- Welcome
  5. Backup Plan- If it rains, we will put inserts and a voiceover in the commercial. If someone is absent we will continue filming and have them edit some of the footage. If school is close we will only have inserts and voiceover for our commercial or we will set our film date a bit earlier.

Research Conventions and Codes

Today in my AICE Media class, my partners and I started planning a commercial. We were given options as to what we wanted our commercial to be about. Once we picked between the main topics: products, anti-vaping, and our school. We then narrowed the selection to programs and clubs. After considering the pros and cons of filming the programs or clubs at our school, we decided unanimously to do programs. We choose programs at our school because it would be more efficient, we would have an organized structure, meet the time criteria, and we have more creative control when filming. The other options were seemed inconvenient for us in many ways. For the product's commercials, we don't have much creative control since there are so many commercials about the products we are allowed to do and we would have to do countless hours of research on what commercials are out there and then try thinking outside the box for the commercial. The anti-vaping commercial requires multiple actors and we would have to figure out how to send a strong and emotional message about vaping without showing anyone vaping.  These reasons are why we choose to do our school for our commercial.

Introduction

Hi, welcome to my blog. My name is Melshida Durand, and a Junior at Fort Lauderdale High School. I will be posting my projects and assignments. I am writing this blog to keep my teacher updated and to show my process when creating the projects. I am excited to start working on our commercial and to be more creative. This class will be very interesting because I will be able to learn about the process it takes to make a film. A little about me is that I like to read. I also like to play instruments and try new things. I always try to be the best I can be. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also like to learn to cook more food.
